60 Days and Counting: Travel in the 60s

Today is 60 days until I leave for my first destination Roma, Italia. In honor of this day, I did some research on what was happening in the travel industry during the 1960s and found some intriguing news:

  1. According to Travel + Leisure, the 1960's was the Concorde plane era, when the first supersonic aircraft was made.

  2. Marlon D. Green became the first African American pilot for a commercial passenger airline carrier through his successful Supreme Court lawsuit against Continental Airlines.

  3. Hotel franchises increased in the United States and Canada as stated in Hotelier Magazine article "Looking Back at the Hospitality Industry in the '50s and '60s."

  4. In an article published by The Telegraph more road trips became more popular due to increased availability of cars.

I took my first road trip with my father when I was an adolescent. My dad drove cross country traveling east in the USA from California to Mississippi to join our family reunion. We made a few stops along the way including the panhandle area of Texas and Memphis, Tennessee before arriving in Tupelo, Mississippi. It was an adventure traveling by car throughout the country.

Forever cherish your memories.
